Steering tilt lock not locking

I tried some searching and didn't come across anything. The lock on the steering column for the tilt on our '04 base isn't grabbing very tight. It provides a little bit of drag but can't even hold the steering wheel up on its own. Has anyone else had this happen or have any thoughts on fixing it?

I had the same issue. Just need to tighten a bolt. There is a thread on another forum that has a couple pics and instructions but can't seem to put the link in this post. Go to Google and search using the following in your search, steering wheel tilt mini cooper 2004 and you should find a thread at Motoring Alliance that will help

Yes,

There is a bolt on the steering column, its sets right on the bottom side when you drop the lower knee bolster trim. The adjustment handle connect to it. Right be side the part that looks like a spring with two metal rods.

Thanks
