R50/53 Remove brake reservoir strainer...how?
Remove brake reservoir strainer...how?
Getting ready to bleed my brake system, and all the books say to remove the brake fluid from the brake reservoir. But, how to remove the strainer to gain access to the fluid??
Looked and can't see how to remove it. I even got a special tool, turkey baster, to remove the fluid.
I'm sure its simple, therefore please enlighten me.
Humbled,

Stoker,
This is for a 2002 Mini S. I can see a plastic ring of some sort, but the reservoir neck appears to be grooved, thus the ring may not have a means to grab it. I suppose I could force the strainer over, but I don't want to break it or the reservoir.
Am I making something hard out of something simple?

I carefully bowed the strainer back and, with a magnifying glass, the ring is integrated into the neck.
The integrated ring has an opening. The strainer has 4 dimples. Aligning a dimple with the opening, and using a small screwdriver the strainer can be removed by bowing the strainer in so other dimples clear.
Nonetheless, this does stress the strainer. Not a good design.
But, I know how to do it.
