R50/53 Replacing Bonnet Struts
Replacing Bonnet Struts
I just discovered today that my bonnet struts no longer hold the bonnet open. Strange how they both seemed to fail at the same time.
Can anybody tell me how easy/difficult they are to replace for the average person?

easy
there is a ball and stud at each end with a spring clip fastener
open the bonnet and support it from falling (helper or wood . . .)
remove the clip top and bottom and the strut can be removed from the two studs. Position new strut, put the locking clips back on.
Done.
Just remember to orient the new struts the same way . . . up/down . .

(p.s. they may NOT have failed at the same time. You don't know how long ONE might have been doing most of the job!)

Its not that hard , you can pop off the Hood ( bonnet ) struts. One per side, change them out one per side at a time and I would both. A flat blade screw driver and a cloth ( so you don't scratch anything ). Get behind each head and lift them off. If the hood will not stay up at all I would use a stick to hold it in place.
Line up the new one and press / snap in the ends to the little pivot ball.
Make sure you put the new ones in the same orientation. Also you can lube the pivot points with some common grease if you want.

We have the hood and Hatch Kits at the bottom. Same thing for the rear.
Edit* Capt BJ beat me to it, I was typing this out while he posted.
Thanks
