Set to 'stun'

Actually, I usually keep it set to miles till empty. I don't always remember to look over and check the fuel indicator.

I wish the regular computer display had a compass (I don't have nav). Then maybe it could display direction and temperature...which is what the computer display on my other car does by default. But since MINI doesn't give me direction, I default to temperature. It's probably the most relevent info at any given time. (2002 MCS that doesn't have a digital readout of speed)

Jsun, I agree a compass would be a really nice thing to have in that tach LCD display. My '01 Impala LS used to have this prompt in the overhead trip computer along side temperature. Another nice prompt that Impala used to have was "Fuel Gallons used to date" which was resettable. I believe the MINI already stores info related to amount of fuel used in gallons to determine scheduled service intervals.

Does anyone use the "Average Speed" prompt? Doesn't seem too useful to me in the very least.

i know on other cars if you press a sequence of buttons on the car you can get a differnet reading on the display ie, on the ford focus if you hold the od button dow and turn the car on you can sellect from real time speed and a number water temp display. does the mini have and special displays that don't normaly get used?

Dug this one up...

How do you get instant speed readings as some have posted? Mine only shows an average?

BTW, I usually have mine on temp because the mpg drives me nuts.

Mine is usually set for MPH, as it is easier to glance at then the center-of-dash speedo. Occasionally, I wink through the other readouts.

Same here. A center-mounted speedometer doesn't make any more sense in a MINI than it does in a Saturn!

Swing, when you are motoring along and want to know your most accurate speed, just zero out the average speed readout, and then it will show you the actual current speed. The speedometer is inaccurate! But the OBC is quite accurate, and best to use when setting your cruise control. I hope I explained it correctly!

I generally leave the temp showing, but sometimes check my current speed. And if I'm on a roadtrip, I often check miles left in tank, too!

Speedo for myself

I find the digital speed most convenient to line of vision. Other options for reference only for me.

Instant MPG? Instant MPH?
I haven't "discovered" those settings yet...

Were they new to the '04, or is this something I just haven't figgered out on my '03 yet??

If the latter, anybody willing to share the secret?

minims, If you have OBC, when you click on the button to see the various readings, you get range (estimated miles left based on gas tank/mileage), average miles per gallon, average speed (miles per hour), and temperature. Now, to get an exact reading of what speed you're motoring at, is when you get to the average speed reading, hold down the button to zero it out; you should see dashed lines, indicating it's blanked out; when you let go of the button, the next read-out will be your actual mph.
