Can I put a pre-facelift steering wheel into my facelifted R53? Hate the 3-spoke

Hey all

I have an 06 R53 with the 3 spoke steering wheel.

I used to have a 2003 R53 with the 2 spoke and liked it much much better. I like the volume being behind my finger when I grip the wheel.

Can I swap someone with the 2 spoke for my 3. Will the air airbag modules switch without problem as well? I would give them my wheel and the airbag and center cap and they would give me theirs.

I know people like going from the 2 spoke to 3 but can it be done backwards?

I don't see why not. I swapped from 2 to 3 spokes and it was plug and play. A week later I went back to 2 spokes for the same reason. 3 spokes with airbag for sale.

GREAT!

Now I just need to find a two spoke wheel. It really is just a better steering wheel feel and design to me. I don't understand the move to the three spoke design besides just for a newer look...

Have you looked at the JCW wheel ? IF going to the three spoke design the JCW wheel has the best feel, thicker and leather alcantara combo. Or swaping your three spoke to the 3 spoke JCW wheel. This is for the Gen 1 R50 R52 R53 MINI . Then you replace with the spoke pads dependent on options and the airbag with the 3 spoke design.

Then you will need (# 6 ) if you have the two spoke and pads at 3 , 6 , & 9 o clock.

Good luck with the swap from the 3 to the 2 spoke. We have the two spoke wheels also. Just figured I would show you the JCW version.

Removing the volume controls on the back of the steering wheel to add paddles was a terrible decision. I never use the steering wheel volume controls on the 3 spoke because I have to look down to make sure I'm pressing the right button.
