Exaust part/issues

Hi again all!

My car has been getting loud. Especially when it downshifts from 4th to 3rd. (car is an automatic) Not sure if the exhaust issue is related to that or not but I jacked up the car enough to get under there and take a look. I noticed a rusty cylinder on the exhaust with a broken metal piece that looked like it once wrapped around it.
I took it right out as it was rattling around in there not connected. I can't find any info from the part number and I don't know much about exhaust systems. I've attempted up add a photo to the post. It's #4 on the diagram. This is the number from the metal I pulled off. 1810 7513378-013

Obviously I know whatever this part is or does needs to be replaced but would it be causing the loud sound when the car downshifts? It sounds and feels like when a person shifts a manual too soon and it over revs.

Cheers!

Hello Kerver,

Looks like you have a R50 MINI Cooper ( non S ) based on the selection. I have re-posted a better picture. For the US cars #4 cannot be replaced its part of number 1 which is the whole exhaust.

Muffler - Rear Part #18307537083 #1 in the above diagram.

The front section is resonator and is part of the whole rear exhaust system. It sounds like the out to it is rusted and was temporally fixed and then came apart again. That could be causing the loud noise, as there is might be exhaust coming out of it now. This is dependent on how bad it is. below is the unit welded to the pipe.

Also check the rear muffler strap as they can rust and cause the exhaust to slide around in the back and make noise. Also the protective shield that is welded to the rear muffler can rust apart. These can make noise.

The upper clamp can rust apart which is #13 in the diagram. We carry a clmap kit that has the upper and lower plus the rubber mounts:

If you have a R50 MINI Cooper and its an automatic ( CVT ) , how many miles are on it. Do you have any shifting problems.

Thanks
