I am not sure with the CVT. I tow at least that much w/my 5 speed. Check with MINI international about tow ratings for the CVT. In europe they have MINI factory hitches so they should have tow ratings.

have a hitch and trailer, of sorts?

I also tow a motorcycle on a trailer. My bike weighs 440 wet and my car has no problem. It is a manual transmission however so this may not help. Good luck.
