Bluetooth Pairing on R53 -no joy
Hi
I have a R53 (2005 Mini Cooper S) with bluetooth option.
When I purchased the car 2 weeks ago, the owner had an incoming call and it rang inside the car, using the car's speakers, so I know the option is definitely there.
However, reading the manual I can see that it asks me to press the button in the arm-rest for 3 seconds, turn ignition to position 1, depress the 'phone' button on the steering wheel, let go of the button in the arm-rest after another 3 seconds and then I should see bluetooth pairing or something similar appear on the radio display.
But, I keep trying the above method, even with upto 20-25 seconds of holding the button in the arm-rest both prior and after turning ignition to position1, but nothing happens at all. The car display just reads 'Activate phone'.
Please help, anyone had the ssame issue?

Yes, tried to find the car from the phone as well. no luck. basically I've tried all combinations by spending hours trying to pair them.
The car is always stuck on 'Activate Phone'. It will not display the 'bluetooth...' message on screen so I know it is ready to pair up.
Also, the phone can never find the car's bluetooth. The owner of the car has the same phone as me (iphone 4) and he demonstrated his handset working with the car.
