Mini has always released the new model year in the September build. Now that a lot of new changes are occuring on July 1st, are these now considered 2005's? It is somewhat confusing. I haven't heard that this is the 2005 or not. Also, why does Mini introduce big changes throughout the model year. With the announcement of some colors and the LSD ocurring on January 1st, but other changes occurring 6months before it is confusing as well. I am not sure what there thinking is, it would be interesting to know? They did the same thing with the DVD based nav, the HK....

 

It has been MINI's history that at the start of the model year the new models are out but some options are not yet ready until later- this was the case for the Harmon Kardon audio upgrade when it was new.

If you order a MINI now and the wait extends beyond the 2004 model year then you get into the line waiting for 2005 with the price increases. At some point the dealer will stop taking orders for 2004. Thereafter all orders are for 2005.

If you are looking for a particular option then you have to get in line now and wait until it is being produced (there might be delays).

Thanks for the response. What I was really looking at is when does the 2005 model year start? The model years have never matched the calendar years. Typically the model year has always started on September 1st of each year for the Mini. With this large number of new changes occurring on July 1st, does this make all cars built after July 1st a 2005?

The 2005 model year actually starts with the june builds

Although the MINI changes over about June or July from 2004 to 2005 the built cars are not delivered that quickly. In Hawaii we often have to wait until November to get the first of the 2005 orders. On the east coast it would be much faster. I think you can officially place orders for the next year about July or before if your dealership lets you.

Model years never match calendar years and for most cars they change over in the fall about Sept or October. I bought a 1995 Maxima in late May of 1994 when it first was introduced as a new generation model.

July builds are 2005. I have an Aug 02 build as my 2003 MCS.

 

According to my dealer, '05 convertibles will arrive in August, followed by standard hard tops in September.
