02 sensor spacer

Hey guys I have recently put an aftermarket catback on my r53 along with a cool air intake. With a larger piping for my catback, I am now tripping an engine code for my 02 sensor. I realize that a 02 sensor spacer will delete this problem and have been doing some research on spacers. Ive been reading up on spacers and was wondering which spacers would fit the r53? I am also having trouble finding a manufacture for the "j" or "L" shaped spacers. Any information will help! Thanks!

It may or may not work. It doesn't appear that it is a lock it will prevent the error.

I'm in the same boat as you. Hopefully the spacer will solve the issue.

Unless MINI's are different you should not be getting an o2 code for just a cat back exhaust. It's usually the deleting of a cat that will throw a code.

It's possible that your o2 just went out...or maybe damaged/unplugged when installing the exhaust?

I agree. Just putting on a catback exhaust will not cause a code to be thrown.

Check to make sure where your catback connects to the exhaust manifold/cat pipe to make sure there isn't a leak. Otherwise, check for a bad 02 sensor.

More options
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/o2-extender

By the way a normal O2 extender 1.5" will not fit you R53, you will need a L.

It does worth to read this article it is a GUIDE on the subject

Check for a leak where your cat-back connects. I got an engine code when the gasket between my header and cat-back went bad.

Thanks for all the replies! It seems that the only thing that triggers the engine light is when i hit higher rpms. The light will go off occasionally when im driving "gently," but since that doesn't always last long it shows up as soon as i hit boost. any ideas?

Make sure everything is bolted up nice with no leaks, and if all is well it is a good possibility the sensor is going

I just ordered the L Shaped 02 sensor spacer so we'll see if it works out. Everything seems to be bolted up nice, its the post 02 sensor that is tripping. Hoping its not the cat or sensor.

sounds like an exhaust leak, what the code that you are tripping?

i also got a code after installing my catback, p2079 i think it was, which is the rear O2 sensing a lean condition. it was random at times.... took it out, sprayed the hell out of it with carb clean, put it back in, SES light went off

Basically at high RPM the post catalytic O2 sensor should remain at 0.8V and
the pre cat O2 should be oscillating in between 0.1V (lean) to 0.9V (rich) in closed loop with engine management controlling the fuel trim.

On the following document read at pages 26 and 27, has the information about the function of the O2 sensors.

http://www.bmw-planet.com/lib/mini/E...20OVERVIEW.pdf

I made a video if the O2 signals on my car.
1) At idle the post catalytic 02 sensor should at 0.1V and at higher rpms at 0.8V
2) The pre cat O2 sensor should always be oscillating in between 0.1 and 0.9 with a variation in the frequency.

Hey guys, just finished installing the right angle spacer on my r53. I cleared the codes, took the mini out for a spin, and cranked it out to 6000rpms a couple times. Engine light remained off when it use to trip at 3000rpms without the spacer. Bought the right angle spacer from ebay, fast shipping and fit perfectly.
