CVT Cable Adjustment

As part of a complete "change all the fluids and filters" project, I removed the subframe (to change the CVT filter and service the PS pump). When I went to re-attach the CVT shift cable, the gear selector lever on the transmission moved. It turns out it is relatively easy to shift gears using just this lever on the transmission. The bad news is I have not been able to find documentation on what all the positions are, so I do not know how to ensure the selector is in park before tightening eveything and running through the adaptation.

Anyone know the proper way to adjust a CVT shift cable? Is it fair to attach, shift through the gears and see that all gear selector movements change the lever on the transmission?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
scped
