I saw the Mini and I knew it was time to let go of the 1991 Honda Accord I was driving.....there was only just over 80K miles on the Honda....I sold it for more than I was expecting!

>>Okay. . . I've got you all beat. A 1985 Mercedes 380SE with a cracked windshield, a rapidly-deteriorating, leprous paint job, a no-longer-raising antenna, split seats, a dead cylinder, no-longer-working cruise control, a cracked dashboard, and nearly 200,000 miles. The very decent folks at Global Imports in Atlanta gave me $500 trade-in for it! I felt like I should have a bag over my head, driving that thing onto the lot full of MINIs and BMWs. Before that I was driving a 1983 Ford Econoline Van with non-matching doors! I'm in love with my MINI. . .

We are not trading or giving up a thing! When we considered the IS 300 Lexus wagon, we knew we'd have to give up the Honda Wagon. I really did not want to do that. We don't have kids but do have 5 dogs. The Honda is used to cart them around. With the MINI, we can keep the Honda wagon, the Syclone and the Typhoon! Everything is paid off so the MINI and the motor home will be our only payments!

Our insurance just went down to $650 (every 6 months) for the other three vehicles. We were quoted $350 for the MINI (this is for 6 months) so we figure it is just as easy to keep the honda and keep the peace (he doesn't like dogs on the leather!)

So, no giving up of anything. Just adding to the herd! One more car and we will have as many dogs as cars!! LOL

Barb, expecting her baby any day now!

Interesting aside:

The insurance on my 2003 MCS will be $1,000 (Cdn.) less than similar coverage on my 2000 Celica GTS. Both vehicles cost approx. the same (new) and are similarly powered.

Go figure!

Traded an Infiniti G20 1995 full loaded for the MCS, buying a new car is never the cheap way to go, but I could not find a 5 year old second hand MCS, I had to buy a new car to get one.
This is breaking a 15 year old good habbit of buying used cars.
Before I had a BMW 735IL, which was like a magic carpet ride.

Overall, I'm really happy with the MCS, it is the most pleasing car I ever owned or driven.

I drove a friend's new A4, there is 5000 dollars difference, I was quite impressed with the handling and overall performance, but this week end I drove my MCS in the rain and in the snow, I'm happy to say the MCS is a marvelous car to drive, it is not an A4 in the snow, but even in Canada, winter is not more than a few months of bad driving conditions and in the rain the MCS is great. the comfort is really acceptable, I like it

1988 Mercury Tracer hatchback!

The old girl finally quit on me two months ago, so my very generous husband is letting me drive his 1996 Saab 900S.

Of course, this "forces" him to drive his other car, a 1967 Porsche 911S, so I don't feel TOO bad...

We switched from a very reliable 1997 Mercury Tracer LS sedan automatic with 45K miles on the odo. The week we sold the Tracer, we placed the order for the Cooper which we received 2 months later.

Our other car is a 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS 3800 V6 (200HP) automatic. Really nice car, very comfortable highway cruiser, Huge trunk, good handler, amazing fuel economy (32MPG for a car that weighs 3,500 pounds) but is quite frankly pretty big when parking, although I am used to it. The car has almost 18K troublefree miles and I am very tempted to trade it in for a new Dark Silver/White Roof MCS but the problem is that we need a car with 4 doors or at least with decent trunk space as we are thinking of starting a family very soon and the idea of owning 2 MINIs don't cut it with the wife, mainly because of rear seat room and trunk space limitations.

So I think I'll hold on to the Chevy for a while longer hoping that either a MINI Wagon (Clubman) or a 5 door MINI hatchback become a reality.

BTW, does anyone with small babies/children have 2 current model MINIs in their garage/driveway?

1929 Model A Ford pickup became a 1992 Jeep Wrangler, which became a 1998 Jeep (sold the Ford for it), traded the Jeep in for a 1998 VW New Beetle 2.0, and dropped that for good ol' Sprog!

My MINI will be replacing a 1994 Chevy Blazer as my main motoring vehicle. Can't get rid of the Blazer though, 165,000 miles and still going strong. I need it to get to the mountains in the winter, and camping in the summer.

My story is a little more complex...

2 years ago I got a job within walking distance of my apartment ( I live in downtown Chicago), and I sold my beautiful modified 1992 Plymouth Laser Turbo AWD to buy an engagement ring. Everyone I knew thought that I had pretty much lost my mind. No one believed I that someone as obsessed with cars as I am could be without one for more than a few weeks.

However, I was in love (still am) and I had access to my fiancee/wife's '96 Chrysler Sebring Convertible on evenings and weekends. My wife has always promised that we'd replace her car with whatever I wanted, within reason. It's been a 2+ year wait, but I'll finally get my MCS sometime in December, at which point will trade in the Sebring.

The real kicker is that SHE will be the one who drives the car 25mi to work every day; I still walk to work. I'll have to get my motoring in on the weekends. Can anyone say "road trip"?

Switching from a '95 BMW 740il (with only 42k miles) if you can believe it! Talk about Mutt and Jeff! My contribution to weaning the U.S from MidEast oil! I rented an MCS from Budget in L.A. for 3 days for my birthday last August to see if it was just all rumor. My wife and I put nearly 600 miles on that car during a trip to the Central Coast and I was sold. I'm a car guy and have owned just about everything at one time or another, and that was the most fun driving I've ever had! After a couple of months of frustration trying to buy a car I finally have an MCS coming from N.Y. by year's end. I'll borrow my wife's RX300 when I need a roomy back seat......or I'll borrow the MCS when I can because my wife enjoyed driving the car as much as I did and keeps reminding me WE are buying an MCS for US!!! By the way, I think renting one of these cars for a couple of days is a great way to decide if it's really right for you. It was $125/day for an S (regular mini is cheaper) with 100 miles per day included. Not cheap, but cheaper than spending $25k for a car that might not be right for you. Budget in Marina del Rey (part of L.A.) has a bunch of these cars (both standard minis and S's). Maybe they have them in other cities too.
