Hey guys. New here. Just picked up a 2005 MCS in Feb and finally got around to my first oil change and noticed the power steering fan wasn't spinning. I called Mini parts department to see if they had the part and they did have it in stock for $189. I hung up and remembered they had sent me the letter regarding the pump and fan and this time called back service and scheduled an appointment.

When I brought it up, they called me a few hours later to tell me they needed to replace the fan and pump (I only told them I had an issue with the fan but I'm not complaining here even though I know it had be replaced under warranty by the previous owner). However they said parts were backordered. When I asked if the pump was backordered they said no and I told them I know they had the fan in stock the previous business day, so what was backordered? The receptionist handling my case said there were additional parts to do the job or something to that effect.

Does this sound right to you guys? I have trouble not believing them because they're paying to put me up in a rental car until the parts come in (could be a month!) and they're a pretty well trusted dealer with great reviews as fas as I know. I just want my mini back

 

FYI, for anyone waiting on backordered parts, I spoke with someone at the parts department at my mini dealership and they said it's a new power harness that's backordered (not sure if it's for the fan or the pump) but they told me they'll be available in Germany on 6/29/13 which should make it stateside on 7/4 so the dealership should have them on 7/6. :/ Just wanted to share with anyone in the same position at me.

 

the power harness is the wiring for the pump and the fan. The dealership said to me the pump fan and harness is being done as one kit and if you come in under the extended warranty and have a problem thats covered they will do all three at once. I had the pump and fan done since it was out but that harness is a german backordered part. I am waiting like everyone else and they said they will call when its in to line up its installation. If you get a good service advisor he will change out the parts they do have like they did for me.

 

It's beyond me why they gave me a rental for over a month when I never complained about a problem with the pump, I just told them the fan was seized.

 

I think it is because of the safety issue they could be liable for if they send you away with it not functioning. you are right tho the dealer here got mine working and it was all set sans the harness, to give a rental for that long is just plain odd but if its ok by you not a bad deal either.

 

I understand the safety issue. It's a 2013 Ford Focus SE. Theres no stick and it's not a mini :( but it could be worse.
