Looking for a CAI and have been looking at the alta one for my r53. Anyone have any recommendations or experiences?

You'll find lots of threads here on the topic if you search for "best cold air intake". I have the DDMWorks and am very happy with it. Others swear by the JCW, Dinan, or Alta. Alta seems to be loudest - or so they say - so if you want max whine from the SC this is probably the best choice. I also think that M7 and CravenSpeed make CAIs, so there are lots of choices out there.

Go with the DDMworks it fits the best, sounds great, and makes good power. It is also made of stainless so it won't rust, and looks really cool. I've used it on all my R53's and it really is best.

If you live in California, you should check with your local smog check station to see how they deal with CAIs. Some smog stations will fail the visual inspection for a modified intake. I have never had a problem with a modified intake but I know people who have. Since the DDM has a cover over the air cleaner, I would not expect any smog check issues but it is worth checking before spending the money. Some people go with the JCW intake because it is stock looking.

The one you own!!
LOL...
They all do about the same thing....find one that is LEGAL in your area (if in CA), and one that makes THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SOUND FOR YOU!!
Many are similar...when folks say "alta" they are usually referring to about 5 different clones....the actual alta ones tend to rust a bit...but the style is nice for sound..unless you do LOTS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING..then a WHINE is like a exhaust DRONE....you decide!!
JCW and Dinian are pretty quiet till you foot gets into them, and are WELL SEALED..so good heat rejection...but are BOTH hard to find these days, but BOTH look OEM...they are plastic molded.
Others are cut/bent sheetmetal.....

JCW intake FTW! Not a fan of the Alta ( there's a reason it's the loudest.....thin foam and not sealed)? But I'm biased because I don't like anything Alta!

I like my Dinan. Some noise, factory looks.

They all suck! Just kidding. I like my Alta. had K&N they were just a pain to clean and re oil. Alta is like the filters on our race bikes for cleaning and oiling. Pretty quick and easy.

Anyone know if it's still possible to pick up a Dinan intake?

The M7 or DDM are both great intakes. I have a M7 on Kermit and it sounds great.

Sorry they are no longer avail.

We recommend the DDM as it is the original,

Thanks. Any huge gains with using the DDM intake tube versus the stock one? Like the idea of keeping the stock tube to keep things looking stock.

If you are in CA the M7 intake is the only one CARB rated. No issues with smog.

No the tube is really for looks, But it is larger so it fits the intake well. The stock tube you have to stretch onto the DDM intake.
