R50/53 acknowledging others
Well I'm in Alameda County does that count? I wave all the time and sometimes I get a wave back. Once, only once, however has the return gesture been from a female. Guess she liked my new stripes.

Although it's a nice gesture, it's hardly required to wave to someone who has the same make vehicle. I never waved to another Jeep Grand Cherokee or Subaru when I was driving those. I think of myself as a very nice, generous person but feeling obligated to wave to other MINI's....I don't think so.
If you ever get a chance to see the HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm eposide regarding waving to other Prius vehicles....it's absolutely hillarious.

Although I rarely see other MINIs, almost always my wave (or thumbs up) has been returned by other MINI drivers, both male and female. Apparently you haven’t read the Unauthorized Owners Manual which outlines the Essentials of Good Motoring Mojo.
I'm a *big* fan of waving at other Mini drivers. I like to think that people who drive Mini's are a different breed of person: kind, friendly, willing to pull over to help someone on the road, good sense of humor (obviously we're not over-compensating- to quote Shrek), etc. I always wave and other Mini's always wave back. Happy Motoring!

Nice attitude. Never did I say I don't wave to other MINI drivers. I've returned every wave and/or thumbs up I've received. I'm just saying if someone doesn't feel like it that particular day that's fine. Why so UGLY towards me. Is it because it's Monday??? Way to jump all over a loyal poster and helper of others on this site. Freakin' relax jsun & the rest of you that blasted me for absolutely no reason.

I'm in Alameda County (Castro Valley) and I almost always give a wave or a quick flash of the headlamps.
I used to live in Alameda, on Grand St. and still visit the island. So if you see me (E/B MCS, White Top, White S-Lites, plate says "CHIBI S"
flag me down and say HI.

If I see another MINI, I wave if I think the other driver will see me. If I'm the right lane of a northbound highway and happen to spot a southbound MINI in its right lane, I more than likely won't wave because what are the chances of seeing a wave at a combined speed of 140 miles per hour are pretty slim.
Although I did come face-to-face with a nearly identical CR/W MC last week...that driver and I exchanged a honk, a wave and a smile.

I noticed the same thing with my VW Beetle when I first got it (back in 1999-2000 when they were fairly new). I got (and gave) lots of waves at that time, but as the years passed, the waves declined.
Whenever we are out in the Beetle now, we only have the rare wave now and then.
I wonder if the same thing will happen with the MINI?
Cheers,

this brings up a topic that has been on my mind for a few months now... where is the love??
Do you HAVE to wave... no! No one waves if you have a jeep cherokee, but then those are common. MINIs are not that common now. I am in Sacramento and no one waves. Its just kinda sad for me. I love to meet other mini owners and talk about their experiences in the mini....
Hence I post on this site!!! So lets get the waves going folks.... and keep 'em coming if you are already waving.

People who don't wave are lame.
I don't care if you don't feel like it, do it.
What is it going to kill you to return the gesture?
Might trying mixing in a smile or two while your at it and see if that dosen't improve your attitude.

I'm with JSUN because
1) i met him and he's the man
2) mini owners unite
3) you can't compare minis to
dime a dozen jeep chrokees
4) if you drive a mini and have
no enthusiasm,you bought
the wrong vehicle
5) if you don't wave,beep or
flash, you lack the proper
training or requirements
to be a mini owner

and yet another mini passes by without waving... it sucks living in a small city like alameda (just near to san fran), cuz everyone is missing out of living the MINI tradition. 99% of the mini drivers here just passed by without any acknowledgment, except for this one girl in a IB/W MC w/stripes that actually waved. Come on people, when you buy a mini you also get it's heritage! anyways, motor on to that girl with the IB/W MC.

Waving and greeting other MINI's is fun when it goes both ways. I've about given up acknowledging other MINI's on my way to work though. I now pass over a dozen every day, and these people just don't wave anymore. They are either chatting away on their cell phone, or just have no clue. I saw two women in an MCS on PCH today. They were 3 cars behind me. I slowed down, to let them catch up, cause it looked like they were trying to catch up to me, but they had no clue. So I took off and left them in the dust in my MC, no less. I love it when I pass a fully loaded MCS with bonnet stripes, nav, aero kit, and painted arches, and no acknowledgement---then I see they bought it from Assael and then it all makes sense.
