I get pinging under load with a stock engine and a 16% pulley using Chevron 94 or everyone else's 91...

From: In my secret lair of justice somewhere among the sewers of Jacksonville Florida.
I've had my 03MCS since it was new. In 2006 I had an Alta 15% supercharger pulley and an Alta 2% reduced main crank pulley installed along with a shorter drive belt, colder spark plugs (1 heat range under stock), an Alta CAI and a retune. Have been driving with howling banshees ever since. Have had no problems what so ever. The main crank pulley dispense with the heavy stock shroud trading about 20lbs of iron pulley and shroud for 3lbs of CNC aluminum. Having also drive an MCS with a 17% pulley my set up is just as powerful (via seat-of-the-pants measurement), it just seems to do it easier and a bit smoother than just a 17% pulley.

What ever you decide just do it because driving with banshees aboard is a blast. Especially when you're hunting Rice Rocket Sushi

Not sure the upgrade would be worth the trouble or money though. It’s making about 13psi boost right now….just wondering how much more boost and HP the 17% pulley will make. The JCW head is a little different than the stock MCS head, so the boost numbers will be a little lower since it flows a little better.

Pulling the JCW pulley...That brings back some pleasant memories, kind of like being stuck in a revolving door with spear stuck in your head type of pleasant memories...

Did you ever have your SC serviced though?

Do you liker bacon? I like bacon. Is bacon good for us? No, no its not, but we still eat it.

is the 17% ideal? No, no it's not... but its delicious and will lead to failure faster just like bacon.

NO MATTER WHAT, the m45 is a wear item. stock pulley, jcw pulley, and or 14-19% pulley will only shorten the amount of time its go left.

My first MINI, i did a 17% and loved it. its perfect for street use.

The MINI I have now has a 14% and is pushing 255 whp. Pushing just at 14psi of boost. ( I'm not going to get into the boost/vs HP argument here ) Our cars produce heat like a thick woman's thighs... which kills HP. More reduction = more heat.

MMmmmm bacon.

Good to hear I made a good choice going to the 17%. I'm pulling off my stock JCW pulley and installing a WMW 17% pulley as soon as it shows up. I'm getting around 13psi boost with the JCW pulley, hopefully I'm around 16-17lbs of boost with the 17% pulley.

I bought a rebuilt SC and did a 17% at the same time. my SC was kuputskies had like 130k miles on it. glad i got the 17% though. on my ultra gauge i see 15-16.5 psi i know others are at 18 and 19 psi with the same pulley which leads me to believe i may have a leak or my belt is slipping. the first day i installed it i did see 17-17.5 psi but never again i used this car in autox and thrash it around on some mountain road quite often. As long as your moving air intake temps stay down. i watch my AIT on a gauge in in the middle of the summer they dont get above 140 with me beating the crap out of it. and i use 93 and never had pining issues as well.

I would stay far away from rebuilt m45s. They don't last long at all... especially when tracked. Eaton never made it to be re-buildable, which is also why you can't purchase items for it from Eaton.

Save your pennies and step up to a TVS, or buy factory take offs or even low mile junk yard specials. ( I wouldnt say the sprintex, just read that thread... WOW)

Oh, and the ones seeing 18 or 19psi on stock set ups are doing not much at all. All that allures too is restriction out the ****.

put a proper flowing head on there and that car will struggle to make 14-15psi.

I haven't the foggiest clue on price.

And i also have no idea what size TVS kits are being sold. I know the TVS 900 is the baby TVS, so probably that one.

So, I used google. Looks like a vendor called RMW is developing the kit. I didn't find anything about Heliux, maybe they are too.

From what I know RMW is testing the TVS900 and is getting 12-13 psi but that's on 10k feet above sea level when they tested it somewhere out west. Those are pretty good numbers being that at high elevations, the air is dense. I would expect bigger numbers in lower elevations.

Back to the 17% pulley. I'm getting 12-15 psi being that I live all the way down in South FL with all that heat the air is heavy especially in humid conditions. Better numbers are achieved when the air is cooler so I'd say 15-17 to 18ish is good

Struggle to make 14-15psi? I think not. there are lots of owners running that with a 15% pulley and more on the 17%.
I would also have to disagree with not using a rebuilt SC as many of us have been using rebuilt superchargers for years without any issues unless rebuilt by a non reputable shop.

Read my post again. Struggle to make 14-15 psi with a proper flowing head. I know this because this is how mine is with a 14% redux pulley and 255 whp.

Also, I specified that rebuilds fail especially when tracked.
