Just curious, anyone tried checking the oil with one of these sticks? You better be wearing a glove or holding onto the handle with a rag because it gets HOT! Just thought I'd mention it.

And make sure to let some of your MINI friends and fellow club members pull it out of the channel, in person. The look on their faces is great!
Gen 1 came the sme way. Coiled up neatly in a padded box.

I have hands as tough as whip leather. Had no problem with it burning me. Seriously though, use gloves or a nice thick oil dipstick checking rag.

I use a folded paper towel or a rag, yes it does heat up, because it's powder coated aluminum, not plastic!

At a gas station, I use a folded windshield washer paper towel, and another one to wipe the oil from the stick.

It's hot, but it's not red hot or anything.

I received mine last night, quality product although I have to say it's extremely difficult to read when you have new oil in. Would be great if it had a redish tint to it like the stock one does. Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about it breaking. I think I'll keep the stock one around for when I do oil changes so I can check the new oil easier.

Mine showed up yesterday. Works extremely well. I just changed my oil and this dipstick is as precise and easy to read as I hoped it would be. Well worth the money! Thanks to Way and Cravenspeed for the added incentive.

With new oil I tried the paper towel method of checking the oil level and it was so so. Until the oil darkens a tad, I now hold the dipstick horizontally in the light and wait until the oil "droops" on the measuring tip and it is very easy and accurate to check.

Thanks, yeah I did the paper towel method at first, worked decent. I also tried holding it horizontally until it drooped but the oil is just so clear it's really hard to read. I'll just use the stock one when I change the oil and revert to the new one once it darkens. Kind of disappointing but it is a very nice piece. It would be great if they would anodize the tip of it to a color like the stock piece.

Is my invoice going to be adjusted? I put in the code under notes. Couldn't find the coupon code field.

Sweet. I went ahead and ordered one as well; I like the extra peace of mind and simplicity of use. Heck, while I was at it I also ordered an NM engine torque arm mount insert! Thanks WMW!

You should be able to see even the cleanest oil as it lays in the notches. If it looks like the whole stick is covered with oil up to the part where it widens, then your oil might be a bit too full. So try looking closely at the notches to see the oil puddling there.
I was frustrated when I used the stock stick, and I finally figured out that the dealer had overfilled the oil, so it all looked the same. That can happen with the Craven one too. You won't see a gap at all if it is overfilled.I ended up draining out about half a quart and then I could read it on the stick, because it was where it should be.

Thanks for the heads up but unfortunately that isn't the case with mine. It's actually just under the full level (determined by using a paper towel) both on the Craven and the stock one. It's just extremely hard to read against the color of the metal since it blends with the color of new oil.

I'm confident that as the oil gets darker it will be easier to read but in the meantime it is a bit frustrating. I'll just keep the stocker around for when I do oil changes. On a good note it sure does slide much easier than the stock one.

Without a car in your signature, I am not sure what you drive but I know with an S the oil will get dirty very soon and be easier to see.

Got mine today just wondering does it just sit on top and no friction type lock when the cap and tube meet?

Got mine today too. It sure fits loose in the tube, no friction at all. Is this normal?
