I'm in the process of figuring out at 80k miles should i pre-emptively get a used supercharger off of eBay to be sent to be rebuilt or should I just hold and see.

While I would love to say the car will be my toy, it's likely going to be the car my fiancée drives around town only (shes a brit who has always wanted a MINI) and I'll be looking for a CPO 3 series sedan.

Can I really justify the cost and also the time and room needed to take on anything more difficult than direct bolt on parts? Probably not.
They actually switched to the K03s on 1.8Ts in 2001.5 with the AWW engine, but kept the tune still at 150hp as with the AWD K03'd engine. Once the AWP came out is when the car went full 180hp with a K03s.

www.frankenturbo.com There's the website to some hybrid k04 turbo's that have really made some decent power compared to the borg warner factory k04-001 and k04-020.

The F21 is making 260 whp and 300 wtq on the 1.8t. The f23 has made a good bit more with a crazy custom tune etc.

So looks like you lost the AC and not sure....the front bumper cover is there....but is the structural member behind it there?
Heck....
This MIGHT be a cool project to do on a r50 CVT with a blown tranny....sell motor...and toss one of those in just for giggles!!

They don't need AC in the UK...it never really gets that hot. But yeah to your point zippy, some of the older R50s are in play money range now.

Sorry guys I have been busy, I will try to get some pictures up later.

The key fact is the 1.8t is a 20 valve engine with real twin cams and 5 valves per cylinder, 3 inlet and 2 exhaust.

I went to the scrap yard today and saw a 1.8t sittin on the ground. I bought it for 30 cents a pound and it ended up costing $65. I'm gonna open it up soon and see if it's any good. Worst case scenario I got a few parts I can use...oil pan, coils, block, etc. Hopefully it's just a blown head gasket : )

Just finished taking it apart. All is good! Can't believe it was just in a scrap yard with nothing wrong with it.
