R50/53 CVT or Manual-How important is it to test before buyng?

I see a 6-speed MCS in my future then.
The CVT is the ONLY automatic I've ever really cared for.
Actually, I take that back. I "test drove" (I use the term loosely as I don't have even close to the cash to buy one) an M3 w/ a SMG tranny a while back... that was a BEAST.
