Because most of the hp on the MINI are produced at the higher RPM, I find myself pushing the car towards the redline quite often and from time to time, the power will suddenly drop passing a certain point. During spirited drive, I like to utilize the hp as much as possible, but without the power drop.

What's the optimal shifting RPM on your car?

For spirited driving or racing, I shift somewhere between 6000rpm and redline.

The MINi has a rev-limiter to prevent going beyone redline, so I dont really worry about it too much.

Just shift when it feels right to you

Just as YuccaPatrol said, shift around the RPM when max HP is achieved. For fast starts try to start at the RPM where max torque is achieved.

it drops because your revving too high and causing the rev-limiter to kick in. when i drop the hammer i watch the tach and shift just before red line.

Try shifting in the 5500 to 6400 rpm range as a rough area to maximize torque and HP. If you shift too close to redline in each gear you will be leveling off on torque and HP for that gear long before you hit 6700 rpm.

The try shifting about 5000 rpm and you will find the torque is a bit better and then you can stay in one gear a little longer. It may depend a bit on which gear you are in.

Once I added the milltek and pilo intake, the motor pulls to redline
without hesitation or dip in torque.

I shift 1st a tad past redline at WOT to maximize torque in 2nd with a
solid chirp from the tires.
