R50/53 No-markup dealer w/ short wait in W. U.S.?
It's a long way away, but MINI of Charleston (SC) is MSRP +184. No gimicks or add ons. The wait is about 8-10 weeks.
I was told they deliver to Cali all the time. You would have to pay for the shipping of course.
I'd be happy to drive it out for you. You just fly me back... I'll make sure it gets properly broken in... there are several race tracks along the way!

I bought my car from Roadshow MINI in Memphis, TN. I flew there, from Southern California, and drove it back. Lots of people have had their cars shipped, but there are drawbacks. One person on NAM accepted his car from the delivery company and discovered the interior was the wrong color. What was he to do? Ordering it and having it shipped is simple, but not without risk.
On the other hand, driving it back is an absolute blast and I was past the breakin period on my first day! But that too is not without risk. I came back 11 days later with a broken windshield, but a lifetime of memories. A direct drive back through Texas won't take 11 days, but I opted to make a vacation out of it with my wife, and we drove South to New Orleans, then back north through Chicago, and West through Iowa and South Dakota down to Vegas, then back home!
Either way you choose, someone will receive your $500-$1,500 either in shipping costs, or gas and accomodations. I just made darn sure, the dealer didn't pocket it so I got my moneys worth!
>>That pretty much covers the dealers I could comfortably drive back from without taking a day off work. Now I start thinking over whether to buy & ship or expand the area I'm willing to drive (i.e., add Texas, Memphis, etc.). Expanding the area starts to approach the cost of shipping the car, once you count airfare, gas, and the value of a vacation day.
