I just got a call from my lawyer. I thought everything was agreed to so I placed an order for a MCS through Niello MINI. I would have never done so knowing they were still going to add $2500 dealer mark up on my replacement car. If MINI will let me order through a different dealer at MSRP I will take the replacement car. IF the don't I am taking the cash and buying something else. If they can bend over slightly to help out a customer instead of ripping them off I don't want to support them at all. Looks like I might be going for a honda CRV or honda element.

You must have signed a dealer order sheet with a price on it. Was the $2500 ADP not shown?

I didn't sign anything. I sent in the list of what I wanted to the dealer.

You're right, NEVER pay over MSRP. There's no reason to do this, the cars are available at or even below MSRP.

ocho9,

I would suggest that you contact MINI of the Hamptons and Classic MINI in Ohio, and look into ordering from them. They are vendors here on NAM and sell at MSRP. Even with shipping, you'd be better off than paying the $2500 mark-up at Niello. Another possibility would be contacting the dealerships in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas or Scottsdale. Call around and see who is selling at MSRP.

Sorry for your anxiety and unhappiness. Do a little homework before you give up on MINI.

I don't know if they will let me order from somewhere else without dealer added mark up or not. If they don't I am not getting another MINI. It is just ridiculous.

Wow.

If they're buying back your car, they really owe you better treatment than this. I would suggest getting MINIUSA involved, so they can either force your dealer to lose the mark-up or let you order from another place at MSRP.

I never cease to be amazed by the disconnect between MINI's fun and friendly advertising and the downright sh*thouse service at some of their dealers.

If you didn't sign anything, you're not bound to buy anything. Walk away.

It isn't looking good. I have a feeling I won't be getting a MINI. I am pretty disappointed right now. I have heard there is one dealer that doesn't have dealer mark up in my area and it is over a year wait for a Cooper S. I would think MINI would replace my car with no dealer mark up and really they should waive the vehicle limit for my replacement car. It shouldn't count as one of the dealers cars for the month.

So anyone have suggestions for cars other than MINI. I am thinking a Honda Element for going to the snow.

Holy Cow, a Honda Element over a Mini? No way.

Anyway, not clear what your problem is. What I did with my buyback is get the money back and ordered the Mini myself. My order is currently with Classic Mini in Ohio. If you are working on a buyback, don't do a trade in. That is the worst way to go. Take the offer as with a buyback and just shop around. If you have any questions you can PM me, I have gone through this. I will be done with the buyback in a week.

THem replacing the car was the best deal. I bought the car used at 2,000 below msrp. So they told me they would replace it at the difference. So then they tell me the amount and they tacked on $2,500 to that amount for the dealer mark up. They are replacing a lemon law car not selling a brand new car. So I can pay the dealer mark up or take my money back and buy something else. I am not going to buy another MINI if they can't do this right. I am very very unhappy with the dealer involved as well as MINI. It is the same dealer that messed up my rear bumper with a screwdriver and put a ding in the side panel the first trip in for warranty work. No, I don't feel they deserve $2500 for replacing my car.

I second Classic MINI. We bought ours there and we live 2000 miles away. Ask for Julie.

How much was shipping? I am in Northern California. Julie is suppose to be calling me back in a day or two.

The Honda Element is in short supply in my area. And has high prices.
The closest I got was to put the Element antenna on my MINI.

I can't say I like the looks of the Element but there is much space inside.

Same can be said for an Aztek, and I bet one of those hideous beasts could be picked up for next to nothing on the used market right now!

Sorry to hear that MINI is giving you such a problem with getting your replacement car. $2500 markup is ridiculous!

A good dealership is Mini of the Hamptons. I live in SoCal and they shipped it out for $500 (took awhile but worth the wait).

Try the Oregon and Arizona dealers. (Nevada's dealer is as bad as most of the California dealers....)

$2500 is nothing compared to the $6000 markups I've seen at other dealers here in So Cal. I do know someone who just ordered a MCS here in So Cal with no markup...I'm not sure how he did it .

$2500 is a lot for dealer mark up. I won't ever buy a car with dealer mark up on it.

East Bay MINI doesn't have dealer mark up but it is a 10 month wait for an S. I am waiting to see if MINI will go for that or not.

Sir,

You are totally off base with that comment on the Aztek.

I think they'll pay you to take the vehicle off their hands.

Take the money. I wouldn't patronize NELLO. Their 2500 markup is a rip off. I bought at East Bay but you are right about the wait. Mini of The Hamptons has about seven S's in stock.

sorry to hear about your problems -- that sucks!
if you decide to get something else, i would recommend a bb (sxion xb) -- those things are super cute. give it a drop and some 20" chrome wheels and you're set.

I third Classic and Julie. My new S is on it's way from Classic to NorCal right now. No complaints at all.

Shipping cost will vary depending on whether you go open/closed, to-your-door/terminal and the timing. Talk to Julie about the options. You should be able to do something for under $1000.
