R50/53 Tire size for 17x7" rim
Tire size for 17x7" rim
I'm doing a bit of research because I will be purchasing tires in spring. I'm currently running 17x7 BBS RGR wheels with 215/40/17. I was looking online and I came across this page about the new direza ZII star specs coming out in the spring. When looking at they table they say for a seven inch rim to use 215/45/17 or 205/45/17. Is there a problem for me to be running the slightly wider tire?
What is your preferred tire size and why? What benefits do you see in your experience of driving?

235/40/17 IMO would be the max, but there are other things to consider such as if the car is lowered. Most run 215/45/17 as I do with no issues and it helps with the speedo accuracy and ride comfort. Many others will come on and give you their opinions on what they use.
Sorry should've mentioned I'm lowered on bilstien struts with H-Sport springs. Not sure how much it's actually been lowered. Not sure how much it will help but here is a pic. I've got about 3.5 finger widths between tire and wheel well.
If you are lowered you don't want 215/45-17 since it is slightly taller and wider than stock.
Sizes that are OK are-
205/45-17
215/40-17
While 235/40-17 is possible it is wider than stock and would reduce clearance and increase risk for rubbing in the rear.
Typically for a 17x7 rim the above mentioned sizes will fit and be OK. However with a 40 series sidewall it will be stiff and not good if your roads are poor. In that case try 205/45-17 with a softer sidewall tire for more comfort.
