Quick Strut Assembly Question!!

Finally decided that I couldnt stand the crazy increase in wheel gap my adjustable camber plates gave me in the front so I decided to go back to new oem strut mounts. Alignment shop said theyd have no problem getting it aligned up front since drop is only 30mm.

might be paranoid but here is my problem...my adjustable camber plates came and were installed with 3 washers to use between the spring pocket (top hat) and the adjustable camber plates. Normally there is only one washer between oem top hat and oem strut mount but I must have lost that oem washer cause I cant seem to find it anywhere. Now I am trying to go back to stock. I tried using only one of the washers that came with the adjustable camber plates and got resistance from the strut mounts hitting the top hat. I put all 3 of the camber plate washers between the oem top hat and oem strut mount and it there is no resistance and everything seems ok...my question is was it ok to replace the one larger oem washer with the 3 smaler washers that came with the adjustable camber plates?? Everything went together ok..the only difference is there are 3 smaller washers between top hat and mount versus one big oem one..any input would be helpful

I don't recall the washer you're describing when I had mine apart...but it was just a quick swap job. Interestes in parting with the camber plates?

here are some pics....first pic is oem set up with one large gold washer in between mount and top hat.

second pic is IE camber plates with 3 washers instructions said to put between plate and top hat.

I lost the large oem gold washer and used the washres the camber plates came with. I took all 3 to get proper movement and clearance and to avoid oem mount from hitting top hat and just want to know if that is ok...mount spins ok with no friction and everyting went together ok..only difference is 3 small washers rather than 1 large one..just wanna make sure

Camber plates are Ireland Engineering Camber Plates...replacing with OEM. Would be willing to part with lol

just an update...so I have now completed replacing my camber plates and putting oem strut mounts on both sides. I had to use the 3 small washers the camber plate kit came with (rather than the large oem washer) in order for the strut mount to clear the top hat. I did both sides equally and made sure both mounts move freely. My ride height went back down in the front. I have Apex lowering springs and with IE camber plates the front wheel gap was 2 1/4" in the front from top of tire to wheel well. Now with stock mounts the gap is down to less than 1 1/4" inch . I origianlly put on the camber plates due to shops inability to align one side. Little did I realize it was because of a failed LCAB and worn ball joints...not the lowering springs. So now I have new tie rod ends, powerflex bushings on everything I could find lol, rear adjustable control arms, and all new ball joints. Alignment should be a peice of cake.

oh those arent my pictures, just needed something form demonstration and couldnt find a pic of adjustable ones with the washers lol....they are most defintiely adjustable. Here is a link from where I bought them.

http://www.waymotorworks.com/ireland...s-r50-r53.html

I have everything except the 3 little washers that go between the camber plate and the spring top hat on each side (obviously) lol which are no special part. I think I still have the loctite that came with kit too. About 5k miles of use with about 500 miles on track. Great if you already have coilovers to compensate for the extra inch the lift the front end

I've got VMAXX coils so some front camber adjustment wouldn't hurt. I thought you meant you had the fixed IE plates. How much would it take for you to part with them?

2005 JCW R53 Suspension question

Hello all. We got a 2005 JCW R53 and I'm pretty sure it's never had any work done on its suspension, the ride is horribly rough. My mechanic says it needs assemblies consisting of a strut, a spring and a ball bearing. He says there is an entity known as a "Quick-Strut" which has all 3 components and he implies that the job of replacing the struts would be immensely easier if he could find these for my car, but he's uncertain if Quick-Struts for a 2005 JCW R53 even exist. Could anyone here tell me if they're around and if so, point me to a source? Thank you all so much for your time

I think a "quick strut" is a Monroe product. Have you done any searches?

It is more likely you just need shocks and struts. You may need front strut mounts, but the other parts we reuse when we replace the struts and shocks.

But I wouldn't get Monroe parts for your MINI. Also keeping your original springs you will know you have the absolute correct spring rates for your car.

If you have the black springs I would just go with the Koni FSDs

If you have the red JCW springs go with the Koni Yellows
