R50/53 Is there a car cover that's completely water proof yet still
breathes? I know that sounds like a contridiction but perhaps there could be mesh vents covered by a loose little flap or something that would allow moisture to go out but keep rain from coming in. I have an evolution fabric cover for my Chevelle. The problem with this and most covers for outdoor use is they quickly get dirty......then it rains and the water goes through the cover depositing lots of dirt on the car. If the cover keeps the rain out but doesn't breathe moisture condenses on the car and can sometimes get the electronics so wet the car won't start. If you're gonna use a cover, which is the best solution for this problem?
I know this is been covered before but I'm about to order a cover in the "NOAH" fabric and before I spend my $150 bucks I wanted to know if someone has a better suggestion?
OK, I'll do a search also.....
Thanks,
R.E.

Resmini, I was in the same boat you are with covers. I've looked for a one now for a few weeks and haven't found anything that I really liked. I know it's confusing looking for one too. You can get caught up wanting water proof, breathable, dent resistant, easy storage, and clear coat safe, all of course for a reasonable price. It's all a compromise and I can tell you that spending money sending back cover because you don't like them eats quickly away at the reasonable price tag plus takes away money from mods! My best advice that people have given me is to try out the stormshield covers, mini mania carries them for $219. I personally tried out the weathershield from BMP and didn't feel it was worth the money, $200 for the cover and another $12 for a bag/log. The weathershield is a thin, waterproof, easy to store cover. It's defiantly waterproof but I thought it didn't have any protection for the underside of the cover, the side of the cover that touched the car. To me it seemed to be the same material on both sides. I was afraid that if a cat crawled on the car that its claws would easily go right through and scratch the car. I've had this problem before with another car, had several thin cat slide marks on the side of the car from the cat sliding down like going down a fence.
I talked to a couple of vendors and one whom I trusted advised me to avoid the NOAH cover. He stated that if it's a cover that will be exposed to the elements a lot, it stores moisture after a while and then it puffs out almost like a sponge. The problem later is that you can't clean it very well and always stays somewhat dirty. I know this sounds all kind of negative and I don't want to degrade someone’s choice in covers because they went with one brand over the other but rather just tell you my findings. In other words people have different reasons why they choose one type and how they'll use it. For me I just received a cover from Pete at Statmosphere, It's $150 but comes with a bag. It's not exactly what I liked but it's somewhat water proof if not totally waterproof, has a softer thin mesh padding underside and stores very compact (more then the weathershield) and has a snug fit so it's not a problem in the wind. Again, this is not the perfect solution but rather just another compromise. I already spend thirty five plus bucks sending covers back and I'm just tired of doing it. Try out the stormshield and if it's not what you like try out the one at Statmosphere.
Good luck

I had a car cover for my MB and it cost me a paint job, because it trapped things like bird dung and held it next to the paint, gatherimg moisure in the evening keeping the dung wet (net result was continued exposure to wet dung). Then there is the trapping and holding of acid rain. Lets not forget the other side of a dry car with any type of cover. Dry car has dust on it and cover sits on dust, the wind blows, the cover moves and you have instant sand paper. If you could avoid the moisture problem you would still have sandpaper. Personally, I think car covers are a very bad joke for the owner and only benefit the retailer.
The original idea of car covers came from collectors of vintage automobiles and were placed on the cars after they were washed and waxed and stored in a garage. The idea was to keep dust from settling on the freshly polished car. To think they can replace a garage is just a pipe dream. Spend more on washing and waxing and save your paint job.

I had my F-350 under a car cover from California Car Cover Co from November to last week here in Ohio. The truck (and cover) sometimes had a couple of feet of snow on them, went through several total and partial melts. I whipped it off like I said last week and I was AMAZED at the look of my truck.......I had washed and dried it before covering it and it still shone. I can tell you that I was AMAZED. the material is called Block It, EVOLUTION, I think it is a notch below NOAH but I am sold!!! I will be ordering one for PKT RKT once I get over my anger at having wasted $125 on a POS from MiniMania......
