R53 Xenon self leveler problem

I recently noticed that my right headlight was pointing way up (way more than normal). After some investigation I found that the bulb/lens assembly inside the headlight could be swung freely - the connection to the self leveling actuator had come loose. This is a kind of a ball and socket connection, apparently secured by a c-clip, but it is in a completely inaccessible area. I was able to get the ball back in the socket, but every time I close the hood it comes loose again.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions for how to fix it? I really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new unit, but this really isn't safe...

Sorry, but they don't sell those parts individually so unless you can find one that is wrecked, you are going to have to buy it.

Mine was pointing down and I thought I had a headlight going out. Turns out internals were broken and I had to get a new light! Now, its' really clear and my other stands out. I need to save up and get the old one replaced. The new light really makes a difference when night driving.

Thanks for the replies, even if it's not what I wanted to hear....

Is replacement fairly straightforward?
