Here's a funny joke for you guys...How much does it cost to have your cabin filter replaced by Mini of San Diego?

$92.64!

If you want a good laugh and terrible service go to Mini of San Diego!

By the way, I like to replace my filter ever 6-12 months. It costs me only $9 for the TYC carbon layered filter from Rockauto.com and takes a whole 3 minutes to swap it out.

YIKES!! Great info. Running outside to check mine now.. I'm sure it hasn't been changed since 2005.

On another note, My wife's 06 Cooper S has a slight cigarette smell from the previous owner.

What do you think of this for a replacement?

Try this for the smell. I had a very low grade cigarette odor from the previous owner of my car. This took care of it:

http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Shocker-ClO2-interior-eliminator/dp/B001NM73CW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1345018814&sr=8-2&keywords=ClO2 http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Shocker-ClO2-interior-eliminator/dp/B001NM73CW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1345018814&sr=8-2&keywords=ClO2

It is guaranteed to work. If it doesn't, they will send you another dose (maybe even a double dose) for free. At least that was the deal when I bought it.

Hey, thanks for that. I ordered one of
these these
last night. I'm going to try it first and see how it does. By the sound of the reviews on the Auto Shocker, seems like it works well.

No problem you might want to try both at the same time.

Just replaced mine too-- wow. Filthy mess. Took about 3 minutes total.

One question: I have the arrow pointed UP, as the video says the blower is pulling air from the floor upwards. There seems to be some debate about this; some posters on the YouTube vid are adamant that the flow is top to bottom.

While anything would be better than my previously clogged filter, what say you guys? Arrow up or arrow down? Which way is the air being pulled?

It'll take 3 minutes to change it if I have it wrong ;-)

I bought a replacement off of ebay for $14. Bad fit, and hard to get in. I am shore it will serve the purpose, but I will buy an exact fit next time.

It was the dirtiest filter I have ever seen in my life.

I replaced it with the new carbon filter I picked up ($10 off of ebay)...and WOW, the A/C blows so much harder and colder now.

Cabin air filters are one of those "out of sight out of mind" type things......but it's so easy to check, it's worth the extra 5 minutes. Wish I would have checked mine when I bought my min last year.

Check it....you might be amazed at what you will find
Good advice! Last fall I noticed an unpleasant smell in my '04 MCS. Then the smell got worse. I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I decided to change the cabin filter, along with some other maintenance. This is what I found;

That's a mouse nest. There were little mummified mice in it. gack.
