Now the weather is nice (here in FL), I've been keeping the windows down and air off more often, but I've noticed that when the air is turned off, hot air comes out of the vents. Not blowing, just barely coming out, but it is noticably hotter than it should be. Anyone else?

BTW I'm talking about the climate contol version, if that makes a difference.

That would probably be the vented air (no fan, just air flow) passing through the engine compartment, warming a bit, then entering the cockpit. Just open a window or two.

I'd normally assume it was vented air, but most cars have a seperate setting for vent... why does it work when the air is shut off?

The only way i know of is to put it on recirculate , this will shut off outside air.
There will be an air flow due to the flow thru ventalation even when the fan is off.

Yep... needless to say, i'm very dissapointed at MINI/BMW for this... i thought that something that was on a 96 Chevy Cav wouldn't be too hard for MINI/BMW to figure out...

Make sure that the temp gauge is not on warm, and leave it on the footwells, if you don't want to have to remember to turn it on recirculate all the time...

I dont have my Mini yet, but I thought this wouldn't be an issue. Even in my 86 325i I can completely stop air-flow. All I do is shut the vent off. Wow, does technology really improve over time, LOL.

Cheers

Here's what I do to solve the problem - I turn the AUTO air on almost all of the time. This solves the hot air problem. That's the whole point of auto air anyway - your MINI will always be at a comfortable temp for you. And with the carbon air filter, there's no reason not to have it on with fresh air. Also, once your MINI is the temp you want, the MINI maintains this temp with very little air flow - you don't even know it's on!

I have the Climate Control / Auto-Air too, and I noticed this this morning.

It was a little cooler out this morning (about 58 F)... but anyway I turned on the AC right after I started my MC, and noticed it was blowing warm air. This was because I had the temp set at 64 (not in AUTO mode though), so it decided some heat was what I wanted! Makes sense.

So, I just turned it off.. but even after it shut off, warm air was still slightly coming out of the vents...
