supercharger sounds "different" now...

maybe im going crazy, but to me my supercharger sounds "funny" recently.

for example, when i give it hard gas, the SC kinda makes a "whooooown" sound... its kinda long like that. its quite difficult to type the sound, so youll just have to use your imagination.

i guess it sounds like a SC, only, "slower"... and, im not quite sure, but i think my boost is less now too. seems like i sometimes i can get above 12psi, and other times, i cant (where as before, i could easily get 15+ psi)

anyone else get "funny" or "different" sounds out of their SC as it gets older? mine is about to hit 80k...
***the only other thing that has "changed" recently is my belt tensioner assembly. the shock blew its oil out all over everything... took it to mini for repairs, but i dont know how well the tech cleaned the engine... mayhap there is left over shock oil on the pulleys? causing the SC to slip slightly?

what is the common "failure" mileage for these things?

Thanks!

I think i know exactly what sound your talking about. Still have the normal supercharger whine but an additional sound kind of like blowing air through a drinking straw? Mine has started this recently or i've just been paying more attention lately. I've got 86,000 on mine.

i may try to even get a video of it, and post that somewhere.

i dont have the air through a straw noise... its more when i throttle back and forth, it just seems like instead of a nice "snappy" spooling SC whine, its more drawn out...

heck, Clay, if your interested, we can get on the phone with each other at some point, see if we can hear each others SCs. PM me or something. I get off work at like 5pm (eastern time). so im free from right then, to when i get home, closer to 6.

Since you took the car to the dealer, i bet theu used a stock (1388 mm length belt) or maybe a jcw belt ..about 10mm shorter if i remember right....so with a 17% reduction, the belt is likely slipping a bit...causing a reduction in sc rpm, and boost.
The stock belts (usually) say conti-tech, and have a length printed on them. You can also check the belt length by looking at the holes on the tensioner....a few pics are around of the proper lenghth belt, but basicly, the shortest you can get on, the better. Using the us sizing system (a bit archaic), a 547 length belt (i think) is the right one for a 17%, with a stock sized crank damper.
