A couple of weeks ago, I started hearing a snapping noise each time I shifted gears. A little investigation revealed that the noise was coming from the accelerator pedal. It happens when I shift fast and let off the pedal sharply. Sounds like there should be something on the other side of the firewall that absorbs the shock. I don't really know. Has anybody else had the problem? If so, what did you do about it. It's not a biggie, but I'm thinking about selling the MINI and don't want to have to field any questions that I can't answer. Thanks!

Strange.....
The gas pedal on the MINI is a "drive by wire" type pedal. My understanding of the system is, there is a rheostat built into the pedal base and an electrical signal is supplied to the ECU for fuel control. That's why the dealer wants $125 for the gas pedal if someone wanted to update a 02 model to the newer chrome ones.

Now the clutch cable might be the culprit, that's a old style cable.

If you figure it out, keep us informed.

My understanding is that the clutch pedal (In the MCS) is self-adjusting hydraulic operated, no cables are used.

I taught that manfacturers had done away with cable operated clutch pedals years ago....

smokey4 and cooper4us are both right. the only thing that I could think of would be something going wrong inside the accelerator pedal assembly. if it is under factory warranty get it fixed and then sell it if you don't want any questions about it. Don't just make it somebody elses problem.

They refer to it as acelerator "stick-slip". It supposed to be up to July 2002 mfg vehicles. The remedy is to have dealer replace the pedal module. Also they say that it happens when the car it warm inside and also when high heat may be blowing toward the floor from heater. It that when it happens or when cold?

As for the clutch, it is correct that the hydraulic clutch is self adjusting and uses a master and slave which taps the brake fluid. There is no adjustment, it takes care of itself. I had this happen after transmission replacement, the clutch pedal was low and after 100 miles or so it self adusted right back to normal.

That's very interesting. I was going to post that I sometimes have this problem...but I don't think of it so much as a "problem" as just an artifact of the fact that the accelerator isn't actually attached to anything other than a switch. So, rather than feeling a mechanical linkage, I sometimes (particularly when shifting fast) feel that I'm simply stepping on a big piece of plastic which doesn't offer continious resistance -- mostly at the end of its travel -- and thus sometimes "clunks". I have a July 2002 MCS...so does this mean that I might have an actual problem that could be remedied??

You guys, this isn't a problem..

It's just hte nature of the pedal, try it, you'll see.

You need to shift fast, so you let off the pedal quick
and it retracts back to its position really quick and
makes some noise. Again, this isn't a problem.

If it is to some of you, man.. either it's a different issue
all together or you're too picky.

Gone. To the Beach!!!
