I have a split boot on the passenger side axle.

If i buy a boot kit, what type tool is required to install the bands?

Does Advance or Autozone rent or loan these tools?

From the days that I installed split boots, I don't recall any special tools. Just lever the bands on and secure them. That said, I wouldn't consider split boots a permanent fix. If you do use one, be sure to check it regularly for integrity.
