Almost 150,000 miles: clutch needs replacement
Hey all,
I'm wondering if 150,000 miles is a reasonable service life for my R53 clutch. It seems to be very near EOL. It seems to be just barely grabbing when I have the pedal pushed to the floor. That was my clue.
I have an appointment for Wednesday to have Prestige MINI in NJ do the job... I suppose I'm looking at about $1500.00 parts and labor plus whetever else they stumble across.
Still loving my '05 MCS after six years, 11 months, three weeks and 150,000 miles.
Thanks!

I am in the 140,000 mile area.. still waiting for my clutch to go! great to see other drivers hitting high clutch mileage - Im a heel+toe, treat the clutch like a button driver, never ride it and consider driving like dancing with all 3 pedals.

Clutches
I have 145K on my MCS and replaced the clutch at about 120. Instead of using the failure-prone dual mass flywheel, we used the Valeo system and it has been great since installed. No extra vibration and it is smoother than the factory unit. It's also about $400 less expensive. Scott at Motoring Magic liked it so well after installing mine that he opted for it in his own MCS.

That is interesting... did the feel change making you use it differently?

I just replaced my clutch 2 weeks ago with a Valeo and very pleased with it so far. A whole lot cheaper than OEM and the pressure plate feels much lighter too. $1500 is a great price for a clutch job. I would advice that you replace your control arm bushing at the same time since the subframe will be removed for the clutch job anyway.
