R50/53 Transmission Problem (Automatic)

Transmission Problem (Automatic)
So just got a 2005 Mini and it seems like there might be a problem with the transmission. When it shift it feels like a jolt on the lower gears, is this a problem or that is how it drives?

It would be helpful to know a little more about your car. Is it a cooper or cooper S?
A cooper for that year is an R50. A "S" is an R53.
The R50 Cooper automatic is called a CVT. Search for CVT and you will find lots of information here.
