I spoke with the general manager at MINI of Peabody today, and finally got some (hopefully definitive) information on what's going on with the new Getrag transmission for the Cooper. Unfortunately, it's not what I wanted to hear. Apparently, the facelifted 2005 Coopers will be arriving for sale in July 2004, with the new Getrag, new bumpers, new interior, etc. The dealer expressed considerable doubt that the Getrags would make it onto any of the 2004s. So, no Getrag without the facelift.

I also got discouraging news about the Midlands tranny currently in my car, but I'll go post that to the relevant threads.

After a search, I did see a mention of the 2005 model year arriving in July on Gabe's site (here); has anyone else been told this by their dealer?

Actually I’ve seen this date slip a bit. The latest info I’ve heard is that the 2005 Cooper will be arriving in September with the Cabrios coming in August and/or September.

Thanks, Gabe. So, do you think they'll have enough Midlands trannies on hand to finish out the 2004 model year for the US? Lots of cars to make between July and September!

No I think it'll be a clean break and they'll start them in '05
