What to look for?

Hi all,

I recently picked up another Mini (missed the first one I had...should have never sold it...ha!), it's an 06 JCW with 18,500. It has been well cared for, it was owned by a little old lady who drove it to and from the train.

Aside from changing the oil, what else should I check? I recall hearing about coolant expansion tanks failing, the power steering cooling fan, and rust by the door sills.

What else am I missing? Or can anyone elaborate on those issues I've mentioned?

The only one of those I've heard if is P/S fan, easy enough to check, just turn on the a/c.

With that few miles I would say, change the oil & belt & MOTOR ON!

Pull the rear lights, they are known to rust out as well. We just had both rear quarter panels and rear hatch covered under warranty due to rust and I didnt even know about the quarter panels, they found it when they prepped the car for the tailgate!

Your sig is causing me great grief. I had to let my '64 BRG E type roadster slip away many years ago and I still have pangs of regret. It needed a repair that I just couldn't afford at the time. I hope you appreciate and coddle what you have.

Enjoy the heck out of your '06 JCW! The 'lump' and Getrag are practically bullet proof.
