Do you have a (Ian Cull) Auto-Up circuit? Otherwise they don't Auto Up in the Gen 1 cars.

The auto up is an aftermarket add on....
the above mentioned module enables it...
plugs into the back of the switches...
Find the instructions, and you mightily need to reenable it...
There are several dolifferant generations of the module...the maker made them as a project..then sold a few...then more...he is a member here...sold the module and the rights/support eventually.

Try the directions of holding down the lock switch. If you hear a been, you may have it installed...

What do you mean exactly when you say "did it once"? The default action for Ian Cull's circuit is a double click. Is that what you did?

No I pushed a single click up when I first tried it per the manual and it went auto up on the drivers side but not the passengers side.

What does your manual say? In the 1st gen models, MINI could not offer auto up in the US (not legal) because the window doesn't have a pinch sensor. Hence the aftermarket auto-up circuit was created. However, auto-up was legal and available in Europe. The manual may have been derived from the European copy and the editor didn't catch it (there are a few other Euro-only items mentioned in the manual, not applicable to the US).

Perhaps the switch was sticking when you tried it the first time?

Per the owners manual, p. 28, the window on the front passenger's side cannot be closed automatically.

But it doesn't work on your driver's side either, does it? As I mentioned earlier, auto-up was unavailable for US spec.

I think the one time was a lucky accident.

Yeah sorry, I wrote that wrong. Thats what I meant, the drivers side went auto up on me but the passengers didnt as per the manual. But when I tried to do the drivers auto up again, it wouldnt work again.

I've never heard of even the Driver's side auto up without the aftermarket circuit. I know it's not something you can program on the computer either since i checked on that last week when i was re-programming my module.

You can by a board or make your own component with capacitor and resistor for less than 10 bucks.

This will give you an idea of what the circuit looks like on the board.

So I just took it apart. No Board Back there :( it seems like they might have had an alarm hooked up at some point and mad a hole there for the LED. Here is what I found.

Any Idea what would go in this slot if it was being used?

The alarm LED. Wonder If I can hook it up to light up when like say the fog lights are on.

Thanks everyone for their replies. Im gonna buy the Auto up V7 because this holding the switch up gets on my nerves especially when pulling out of drive thrus.

That was definitely a DIY modification. Normally it would have a blank filler cap if the position is unused with no switch (btw, that location is for the rear fog switch).
