I be looking for GTO's to drag....... I'll switch of the DSL /DSC whatever, and smoke my tires so bad the guy will have to lift off.
Anybody got Lutz' e-mail??
Maybe he'd like to know his Pontiac marketing guru and his ad agency just pissed off a whole lot of upwardly mobile, hip, all around cool, informed consumers...........

We all have made personal choices about.....
what we choose to "see"
and
what we choose to "drive "

Enjoy your choice and let others enjoy theirs

Peace,
D

RELAX. They can't be talking about a MINI... they spelled it wrong. It is supposed to be all in capital letters. A mini? What's that? BTY: in the locker room you shouldn't need to tell them about your mini, they can see it.

I know many do it, but I'm never impressed by car ads
that distort the picture of the car. If it is a really good
design, there should be no need to distort it. In this
GTO ad, you really see little of the car. Apparently, the
wheels are its best design feature. (I really don't know,
I haven't seen this car.)

Godspeed.

Looks like another Super Bowl ad reject

I work for GM and am ashamed of this lame brain effort. They should shoot the agency responsible.

hrmmm thats hard to believe That Pontiac would even make such an advertisment.

You sure nobody in the gym was maybe playing a joke on you.

Why would GM single out MINI's like that when the MINI is not even in the GTO class.....makes no sense

>>I dont care too much for the styling of the new GTO <<

...or lack thereof. The last Grand Am looked more exciting than the "new" "GTO". It couldn't possibly be more boring. What a half-assed cash-in on the retro trend. Hopefully the market will prove their mistake to them, but then again there's that old adage that no one has ever gone broke underestimating the intelligence of Americans.

The "NEW" gto is just a rehash of a car they alredy had in gm australia brand.. I think its a POS, it doesn't look at all like an old GTo and shoudl even be considered a muscle car like the old one. no lines and poor design. I wish teh same ceo who is putting out teh solstice had been abel to get his hands on this car before they had deided to put it into production... I think the soltice is very very nice... but in true detriot style they screwed up the inside from teh concept and made it more plain jane. I'm glad mini at least tried to stay as true to the original design as possible.. I wish other car maufactures woudl get it throguh their heads that we want something exciting and fresh on the inside, outside and under the hood... oh well,

I would politely tell him that I consider his Pontiac Divisioad pretty awful and that I will remember that next time I am in the new car market. Don't need to give anyone "what he was looking for", one does need to make oneself heard on this or any other issue.

I've never had much interest in GTOs (...except that Ferrari!) or anything remotely similar. The whole concept is pretty much a yawner for me. If fact the whole obsession raw horsepower is indicative of a weird kind of sickness, IMHO.

That said, I have lots of friends who feel differently and, even though I think they're totally bonkers, they're entitled to their weird, twisted enthusiasm. (...again, IMHO)

However, this ad picks on one of the little guys...a MINI! Very poor taste and not a good reflection on the brand at all. It'd be like an MCS trying to compare itself to a Geo Metro...do ya really want to go there?!?!?!?! My suggestion for these ad folks would be to come up with something original and somewhat classy...but then that might not fit the brand, right??????

I bought a 65 GTO new in 65. Great car, I loved it. It didn't hurt that I was 22 at the time either.

So tell them how you feel:

http://www.pontiac.com/

Click on "contact us" in the top right corner

Click on "e-mail us"

Then pick "I have a comment about your advertisements"

And have at it.

oh And remember we are MINI owners try not to come across as one of the knuckle dragers that would buy that thing.

Jack

Sorry to say but this is a typical American ad ... playing on peoples fear and insecurity. And putting it in a gym is very appropriate.

Like someone said already, marketing job was well done actually.

The ad aims to be funny, but really plays on the fear of gym hounds.

Is there nothing the GTO can offer without bashing other cars ...

But then again who are we to talk ... half the Mini ads are SUV bashers

All in all I seriously doubt that anyone who would seriously consider buying a MINI would want a new GTO and vice versa. That said I doubt their marketing division was concerned about losing any of us buyers, we were off the table from the start.

No problem, if it makes a likely GTO buyer feel better that he's not driving a MINI, okay by me, I'm equally glad I'm not driving just about every other car out there.

Except the Lotus Elise, but that's another story.

don't be so defensive...I am sure you would be polite and diplomatic

my point is that even MINI ads and this community take cracks at SUVs with the same sort of wink wink nudge nudge sarcastic humor...just listen to all the negative cracks on the GTO when only one person commented on its Australian derivation...

now for something completely different...

Ironically, I've had quite a few people come up to me at the gym and tell me how cool my MINI is, and how they want to get one.

And really, does anybody ever want to see, "I have a Pontiac"? Ew...

For a good number of years now, GM has been marketing Pontiac as their 'performance' division. For a good number of years now, Pontiacs have remeinded me of guys who stuff their shirts [and pants] with newspapers. People see the bulges and go "OOOOHHH". Then, it rains; and all the newspapers get wet and fall to the ground with a loud 'plop'. We should all laugh at this moronic attempt at 'steroid pumping'. Just remember, one of the side effects of excess steroid use is - impotence.

I actually think that ad is pretty funny. But i'm certainly not ashamed of owning a mini, like the ad might suggest. If you were ashamed to own one, why would you? And I would someday love to have one of the late 60's gtos. It would look awesome next to my fj40.

It's funny to see how defensive MINI people get as soon as anyone says anything that slightly infringes on the 'superiority' of the MINI... jeez, people, you are all getting a complex. While the MINI is a superb automobile, it is not, in fact the "King Crap High Superior of All Automobiledom Ever".

Someone will say something like, "It's not that fast in a straight line". And the MINI owner immediately starts quoting handling figures like, "It outhandled the Porsche 911 Turbo in the slalom". Woopee-doo dah. I'm sorry, but if I could afford it, I'd have a 911 Turbo in my garage - and a MINI.

Someone mentioned something about a steroid rage - well, most of these posts have been made by people with MINI rage.

The GTO is a big car with a big engine. It goes really fast in a straight line and has admirable handling capabilities for such a large, heavy auto (yes, MUCH faster in a straight line that a MINI, S or otherwise). It doesn't compete with the same buyers that a MINI would at all, which is just one reason the ad is funny and nonsensical.
