Cost to Replace Control Arm Bushings?

All,

I'm going to buy some Powerflex front control arm bushings, probably from Way. A few questions:

1. What is a fair labor charge for a shop to install them?

2. Should I get them pre pressed? Seems like this might save significantly on labor costs.

3. Is there anything else I should have done while I am having this work done, i.e. because the labor would kill two birds with one stone (or maybe more than two).

My MINI has 92,000 miles. I am the third owner, but the car has been meticulously maintained.

Thanks in advance for everyone's input!

Many shops will charge about 5hrs labor. Our local dealer charges $1300 do do it.

I recommend replacing the front sway bar bushings at the same time, you'll already have them unbolted.

WOW!!! $1300!!! I got quoted $400 for Labor (I think 5-6hrs), but that is a local MINI Shop, not dealer. I am going to buy Alta's PSRS which cost $280, but did find at Way Motor Works for $210 shipped.

Ps: WMW do you still have the Alta PSRS bushing in stock? I saw that you are not going to carry Alta Products anymore.

My local independent charges about $300 labor, as I recall.

Those Alta things have been known to wear out pretty fast. Best research and see if they ever fixed the issue.

Phew! I first saw the $1,300 and thought I was in trouble. I'm going to use my local guy rather than the dealer, so I'm guessing I can keep it below $500.

I have access to a lift at my Dad's garage. Is this hard to do if you have the right setup and tools or am I better off having my local garage do it?
