What is the secret to headlamp bulb change?

2004 MCS w/ xenons. Low beam bulb burned out (first burn-out of any bulb in 8 years and 115K miles!) Bought new H7 bulb. Successfully removed the old one, but can't figure out the orientation for the new one (should have looked closely as I removed the old one.) The bulb flange is not completely round - there is a flat spot - and I can't feel where exactly where that portion should go. Even with flashlight and mirror can't get a good enough view. Help me please! TIA

ummmm ... the low beam is xenon D2-R ... on a GEN1 with xenon the high beam is a standard H7 halogen . . .

I'd pull the other headlight's high beam with careful attention to orientation if you
can't just turn it until it seats well by feel. Just remember which way it came out so
you don't have difficulty putting it back the same way.
I'd look at mine, but it's away at the shop this weekend.

To close out my own thread, the flat portion (with protruding tab) on the H7 bulb sits at the high-noon position.

yep 12 o'clock, sorry I was slow to reply ... you can def'ly feel when the tab drops in correctly ... working with the light over your head and in an awkward position makes it a wee difficult.
