>>I tried to find the bulletin on the hood rattle, but could only find this one. If anyone wants to know if there is an open campaign on their car please feel free to contact me and I'll try to look it up.

>>Subject:
>>Paint Damaged Under Hood
>>
>>Complaint
>>Some MINI owners may complain that the paint in the area of the hood strikers is damaged.
>>
>>Cause
>>Movement of the hood against the seal on the top of the radiator shroud can eventually rub through the paint on the underside of the hood.
>>
>>Measure
>>Protective shields, part numbers 51 48 7 126 245/246, have been developed to prevent this paint damage.
>>
>>If the paint has been worn through to bare metal, touch up the affected area with zinc based brushable primer.
>>
>>Remove the screw from the expanding plastic pin that secures the hood pad on both sides. Remove the white plastic strip from the double-sided tape on the shields and install the shields between the hood pad and the hood, pressing the double sided tape firmly into place. Reinstall the expanding pins and screws.

Checked mine yesterday. They were loose. Mine is a 2004 with only 4500 miles. It was delivered in October, 2003. Thanks for the tip.

Sure enough, I checked on mine and the two nuts which attach the rearward part of the scoop are gone entirely. This probably has to do with the fact that these nuts also hold the plastic air deflector in place. The expaning and contracting of the plastic deflector no doubt made these little 5mm nuts loosen then fall off. Looks like I gotta root through my bolt bin for locking replacements.

Read this yesterday and checked I'm short the two front nuts. Still! I hasd read the original and asked the dealer on two previous visits for other issues to fix it. Stopped by dealer for other issue yesterday and printed copy of this thread given to
service advisor. Told tocome back in ten days .

I think I'll remove it and report it blew away on the interstate. I could use a spare.

I checked mine after reading this post, and BOTH of mine are gone! A little tug on the scoop and yep it was loose as can be. Just sitting in place!

I'm surprised.
