MediaBridge Install - Complete

Just finished up the install of my DICE MediaBridge 1500 w/ Bluetooth in my R53. Below is a quick write-up on how I did it. My apologies for the lack of pictures.

Background - my car has factory Sirius, so I had to order the BMW-ACC-SAT cable along with the MediaBridge.

1. Open the boot and remove the panel on the left side that covers the CD Changer/Sirius receiver. There are two external clips at the top that will release it.

2. If you have factory Sirius, you'll need a 10mm socket and a small 10mm wrench. The "rear" nut holding the receiver in is easy to get w/ the socket/ratchet. The "front" nut is a ***** to get to. You'll have to wiggle your hand in there, and kind of lay the wrench in there to get the nut off.

3. Once you remove the receiver, you'll see a plastic black cap on the top. Remove it, and plug the ACC-SAT cable into it. The other end of the ACC-SAT cable plugs into the cable that came with the MediaBridge, which then plugs into the MediaBridge itself.

3.a - If you don't have factory Sirius, skip 2 and 3, there should be a loose cable back there that will plug into the MediaBridge cable, which then goes into the MediaBridge.

4. Next, you need to run the mic cable. I mounted mine above the factory mic grill in the roof. To get to that, you'll need to remove the sunroof trim. The black plastic trim easily pops down, and the entire panel slides back a little to let you access the top of the piece. You can pop the sunroof control out by squeezing on the metal clips on the edges and pushing it down and out of the housing. Unplug the cable running into it, move it to the other side, and plug the cable back in. Now you can kind of wedge the mid in the housing so that it faces down and toward the driver. Now you need to run the cable to the boot.

5. Using a bent wire hanger, fish the mic cable to the back pillar in the trunk, and using the same hanger fish it down the back pillar. The plastic easily pulls away from the pillar so you can fit the hanger in there.

6. I ran the USB cable into the center console by running it along the left side of the back seat, then under the front of the back seat, then under side of the plastic center console. You'll have to personalize this part depending on where you plan to put your iPod.

My first impressions:

The sound quality when the iPhone (4) is plugged into the USB cable is pretty great. Music sound quality over Bluetooth is mediocre, and it's a real drain on the battery life. Voice (call) quality over Bluetooth is reasonable, and I'm told that I can be heard "ok" via the mic. I'm told it's not crystal clear, but that I can be heard. Controls via the steering wheel work great, and I do get text on my radio. I can hold down the phone button on the wheel to initiate voice control on the phone. All in all I'd say it was a good purchase.

Yea, I'm really satisfied with mine. I've got the sport steering wheel so I can't initiate voice control, but I'm working with them on that.

I use it with my Windows Phone 7.5 (HTC HD7S) and overall it works really great!
