Oil Help

I tried looking to see if there was a thread for this (I'm sure there is). But I couldn't find anything.

I was curious, how do I know what weight and type of oil to put in? Some people say 5W,10W,0W - 30. Idk what weight to go with. Any ideas?

Those are all 30 weight oils. The 5W, 10W etc... are the winter ratings. In the USA, 5W will cover all climates. However, if you are bordering Canada you might want to use 0W.

The winter rating simply means that the oil will be the same viscosity at a colder temp (it won't thicken). SInce you are in Cali, use 5W - 30.

What daflake said. Also, just for clarification sake, make sure you are using synthetic engine oil.

BMW OE is 5W-30 Castrol, Mobil1 is also an approved alternate, its all I use. I get mine in the 5 qt pail at Walmart, save a few $$$$$$$$. I also add a tiny shot of Marvel Mystery Oil to keep everything hydraulic nice and free n loose.
John is correct, with the heat of a small high rev turbo engine, conventional oils will sludge from being fried. Goodbye turbo and very likely crank bearings.
