Relocating temp sensor

It's nice that mini saw fit to provide us with a temp readout on our tach, but they put the sensor in the wrong place. I can roll down the window to feel the temp outside. I'd much rather know the temp of my engine, especially once I get a smaller super charger pulley.

Does anyone know where the temp sensor is, and if it can be easily moved to somewhere useful in the engine bay?

Also, do you think this would cause my car to flip a dooby cuz of the ridiculously hot "ambient" temps? I know BMW likes to build random safety guards into their cars. Don't need my car acting screwy...

Thanks!

Your MINI uses the data from the temp sensor for engine management esp at start up.

If you want info like: Post intercooler temps, Water Temps, Voltage ect. just by a Scanguage II.

Mine had some issues after 5 yrs. with the screen blanking out at WOT. I sent it to SG, and they fixed it for free, added new updates and sent it back good as new and even threw in a brand new OBDII cord too !!

The temp readout on the computer is from a sensor located on the backside of the front bumper...
I would be cautious about repouposing it...the computer may use the ambient temp for other things than just a display...
as gray stated, there are very good options with a scanguage to get you the info you want...

Grey Raven speaks the truth!
Scangauge will give you instant engine temps, plus, plus, plus.
You can even notice thermostat operation. I know not very interesting but if its not operating properly you'll have a major problem.
I mounted mine right over the outside temp. indicator....imo...a useless gauge.

I think the heated mirrors (wish I had them) use that temp also. My old BMW did, and these cars share a few traits.

Ok, well I guess I won't mess with it. I don't want to screw anything up and I don't really want to spend more money. I was just seeing if this was something I could do on the cheap.
