R50/53 Need a Tool Set - suggestions?

Thanks for all of the good advice. I'll probably just start piecing a set together as suggested. I've got a bunch of random tools at my parents' house, so I'll probably start by going through those to see what I have that's useful/acceptable.

Good call on that. If you get an actual tool chest (like one on wheels) one of the keys is to make sure you get ball bearing drawers. If you don't you will regret it as soon as there is a bit of weight in a drawer. The regular sliders will start getting quite hard to open and close. Ball bearings are a must.
