R50/53 Brake sensor went off--how many miles left until I need replacement?
Brake sensor went off--how many miles left until I need replacement?
Light came on yesterday, called BMW today and they said once the light is lit up that I have 1-2k mi left before I need to take it in. Is it more? Less?
I searched and tried to find this answer but no luck. Thanks

It really depends on how you drive, but the average person gets 1-2k miles before the pads are metal to metal once the light comes on.
FYI Since the light came on you have to replace that sensor. If you need pads we'll help you out.

Might want to just peek at the pads to make sure they're not wearing too unevenly - they're usually
pretty close to each other, however.
There are 2 pads with sensors and 6 pads without sensors.
One or more of those 6 could be closer to metal on metal than the sensor equipped ones.

When looking at your brake pads, you should also figure out if both axles (front & rear) need replacement, or just one. The front brakes do about 70% of the work, so it's more likely it's just your fronts - depending on previous brake service, that is.
Also, your rotors may well be good for another cycle of pads so don't let anyone force new rotors on you, and don't waste them by putting off pad replacement and getting metal-to-metal. Brake pads are inexpensive and easy to replace.
But if you're willing to let the dealer assault you on a simple brake service, you probably don't want cost savings advice.
