Never heard of that option on the first gen cars.

At least on the '02-'03 models, you can shut the driver's side door, open the passenger side door, grab the car seat out (that's why I'm opening the other door), flick down the center toggle switch and close the door. Viola! The car is locked, so you better have put your keys in your pocket. This works on the wife's car, my driver's side door actuator is broken but I assume it will work that way, too.

Flicking down the center toggle does nothing when the driver's side door is open.
