R50/53 Engine will not start
Engine will not start
Engine just stopped after driving for 6 hours. I checked it for spark, OK.
Checked for fuel, OK. It turns over quickly. Back fires once and that's it. Do the 2005 Mini Cooper S have an external timing adjustment? Got fuel and spark, must be timing. Any help would be great.

no external timing adjustment that I'm aware of and no mention of such in Haynes . . .
remote thought but can it get air? what's the filter look like?
you checked fuel: meaning there is fuel in the tank or after cranking you can smell fuel at the exhaust . . . you have ruled out a fuel pump failure?
did you check the fuse for the fuel pump? F20 in the pass' compartment fuse box ... second from the top of the middle column, a 20 amp fuse.

Yes it gets fuel, through the fuel rail into the injectors. I tried cleaning off the plugs, drying out the cylinders and then tried to start it. All I get is one back fire. If I crank it for 15-20 seconds the plugs just get soaked. Drained the tank and put fresh gas in also.
Running out of ideas.

I was driving when it died. Turned into my road and nothing.
When I crank it it spins as quickly as it normally would.
I am guessing since I get fuel and have spark it's lookin like a camshaft position sensor or something like that. What do you think?

You can check the computer connection. A good scan tool/program would be a great thing about now.
It does seem to be electric which can not rule out a wire coming loose. If you did any work recently, you can check around the area you were working on.
