Morn'n all,
I'll try not to make it a rant...but...this stuff just winds me up
At the bottom of the passenger side windshield wiper is a small cover (that hides the nut that is used to gain access to the windshield blade housing)

You guessed it....it's missing...it fell off!!!
Why...????
Now I have to ride to the dealer ...and pay (I'm guess'n $10 bucks for a 50 cent piece of plastic/metal)

This is not a single incident of this kinda stuff happening...
I won't bore you w/ a laundry list of items... quite yet
Loads of things have come loose, instances of rattling & buzzz'n occur repeatedly and in some cases "stuff" has actually ...fallen off.
I have never had this occur( with the same frequency) with any other car I have ever owned !!!!!!!!! NEVER!!!!
I almost daily walk around my car to make sure things are secure and/or do an inventory of what may be missing. It's certainly not an issue of neglegence... as I'm a fanatic about caring for this car. BTW....it's not a theft issue as my MCS is never in a place that would cause that posibility.

It has to be... simply....that stuff falls off this car"
I'm laugh'n now...finally (thank God )... but just don't get it

Does anyone else had/have this ...problemo?

Peace,
D

Yo D. - isn't your MCS still under warranty? Make a reservation at your local service department, grab a loaner, and let them iron out the various little things.

My MINI isn't falling apart yet, but I keep an eye on it. The car is British, and there are obviously QC problems.

Hey D
I know about when your car was built and I have a theory. When the dealerships opened, they were flooded with orders for a lot more S's than they had planned on. We all know they had to add a 3rd shift and work around the clock. I believe that for a few weeks or months, 1/3rd of the work force was "new" and not all of the cars were built by the veterans. My car was built in Jan 2002 and I think they had more time to "get it right" or "before the rush", whichever you prefer. I'm sorry you've had these pestering little problems, because I think you're a really good owner. Problems or not, you still have one of the best looking MINI's I've seen. Pick up the pieces and Motor On.
I have a feeling you're going to own another "S" in the near future.

Are all of your body parts still attached? If so, be grateful.

D,
A new 06? With the practice you've had with this car, I can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm sure it will be a sight to behold.

Dennis - the last thing you want to do is wait for the 1st year of the next platform, and have you go through the platform teething process yet again! BTW, '06 will not be the 1st year for the new platform. It makes no financial sense to have only one MY of the Open and revised Cooper styling. My guess is MY07 at the earliest, and more likely MY08 will be the release of the new Peugout-based platform.

NO D! Not a 2006, when rumor has it as a new design release!!

My Dad has told me from the time I was 15 years old! "Never buy a car in it's first year of production" ... even if you have to torture yourself for a year, you have to wait for that 2nd year to roll around. So many things get ironed out in those first 12 months!

and I too am totally into watching my car, looking for anything that has changed. I see rock chips and freak! I heard a "POP" the otherday as I drove and freaked. No telling what was settling into place or falling off. I looked all over, almost came to crawling under, to find what caused the sound, but I couldn't find anything amiss.

I vote "wait for the 2007"

Well I bought a 05/2002 already... and that was the 1st year of release in the states
I have always followed your dad's good advice..... as well...
When I originally purchased my 2002 I planned on keeping the mileage low and intended to hold onto it...for ever and ever and longer than that ...lol
Things change... such is life

Time will tell...

Point taken ...duely...noted

Peace,
D

Nothing has fallen off, yet, from our 8/2002 build Cooper CVT with 19K miles. In fact the car has no rattles, buzzes or other build quality related issues. We are very pleased with the solid construction of the car.

My '04 MCS is even better.

I tend to think that your wiper arm cover was stolen rather than fallen off the car, unless ofcourse you or your dealer had been tinkering with the wiper arm assembly as of late.

Keep us posted.

Hey Pebbles, I think I am pretty much obssesed about the MINI as you are, but I am slowly learning overtime that if we freak out about anything about the car (Rock Chips, noises, etc) we stop enjoying the car and begin an endless torment with worrying an overprotecting the car from everything.

Let's just enjoy ourcool rides and motor on!

Greetings,

Once saw a bumper sticker on a classic Mini that read:

"The parts falling off of this car are of the finest British craftsmanship !"

Dennis, I share your frustration having assorted electrical issues, rattles and leaks in just 5500 miles; but what exactly fell off except for this access plastic piece?

Maybe I missed it. Also, these little plastic "doors" tend to fall fall of Fords and Hondas, too.

Years ago we would tease my friends on British Bikes that they had to install nets behind their bikes to catch the pieces that fell off. Of course, I couldn't really rib them too much because I drove British cars almost exclusively then!

Regards,
Red

I've had a similar problem with wrx's and Hondas falling off my rear view mirror. Other than that everything else is holding up just fine on my 03 mcs.

Yes, it's taken me a few weeks to settle into just getting in it and driving it. If memory serves me, you picked up your MINI just 1-2 weeks before I did so you are right at the same point in the process of ownership that I am!!

Hey D,

I've got an 04 MC with just 1500 miles now and nothing has fallen off yet, at least not that I have noticed. I can't wait to start replacing some of the parts though with better ones -- down the road sometime.

Have fun thinking about your options on that new model MINI, i.e., color, wheels, etc. If you wait long enough you can get the new Peugot engine, but I dont' know anything about that one yet.

Peace

That is great news D! Guess they did not charge any "handling fees". So, what other stuff "fell off"?
