R50/53 2005 Cooper S: Anti-rattle Kit / Oil changes cost??
2005 Cooper S: Anti-rattle Kit / Oil changes cost??
After reading many reviews I saw a couple things that may be an issue.
Why would some dealers charge up to $400.00 for an oil Change?
What is the Anti-rattle Kit?
I have a garage and work on most of my cars...
Can I probaby handle an oil change on the Mini?
Is the Anti-rattle kit something I could probably do in the garage?
Thanks for any help.

I don't know about an 'anti-rattle kit' but oil changes are easy.
I have been doing my oil on the MINI the whole time I have had it (5 years) and no problems. Just make sure to get a Mann or NAPA Gold oil filter and follow the tutorials on this site. Really no different than any other oil change other than the filter, and that is not a big deal.
If you know cars at all you can 'anti-rattle' your car better than any kit. Just like all cars, find the rattle cause and address (tighten or add, felt, foam or rubber as required). My 04 with 65k is almost rattle free from just keeping up with what I hear on an regular basis.

I'm not sure what dealership charges $400 for an oil change but they need a reality check if they really do. I'm not sure where the $400 is coming from, but the drain plug is at the bottom just like any other car and the car is a 1.6L motor that does not require $400 of oil to fill.
If you've done oil changes before you should be okay. The filter cap is a bit tricky to put back on but with patience, it'll tread in just fine.

oil change: get the DIY and the you may want to search about stuck oil drain plugs. Plenty of folks have trashed the plug on their 1st try at an oil change on this beast.

I recommend sticking with the OEM filters due to problems with the o-ring needed for the canister .... but there are plenty who've used others with success.
