No ticket, but was told I need to put the front plate on.

I didn't get a bracket for my MCS probably because i have the Aero
bumper from delivery.

Is the front plate bracket the same for the Aero bumper and the factory
MCS bumper? :???: If so, should be a quick fix.

Too bad the cop followed me to work and parked next to me... he said
he'll be checking up on me from time to time...no ticket or anything as
I had the front plate in the boot. Told him the braket was on order and
has been for the last 2 months.

Weak. That's not going to look cool at all. Do you really think that he's going to "check up on you"?

Tell him that there was a strike in the factory in Micronesia where the plate holders come from and that it could be months before they are manufactured and shipped to your dealer.

I bet he was hoping you'd offer him a test drive.

same thing happened to me in schaumburg ken.
cop followed me into my employers parking lot,
and pulled up next to me.

i pulled my plate out of the boot, and he told me to have it put on.
i told him i had service scheduled for the next week, and he took off.

no formal warning or anything.

since, i can't say if he's checked up on me,
but i have had no other problems.

personally, i'm prepared to leave it off until i start getting ticketed for it.

I got a ticket for that when I was parked on the street in Denver last summer, pretty lame.

just got a call from Rob just now and he says the aero bumper uses the same
bracket as the factory bumper...and free to pickup at any time.

so, will pick it up and keep it in the boot.

The aero kit license plate bracket is different then the one for the stock bumper...drill holes are the same, but the aero kit mounts lower then the stock one...ie the holes on the bracket are on the top of the aero kit one where as they are on the center of the stock one...so the plate is mostly in the lower opening on the front bumper...personally I think this is the one that should be sold on the cars as it fits the stock bumper just fine and is the correct size, unlike the stock bracket which does shorter but wider then a US license plate. It is not included in the aero kit and must be ordered seperately. It is in the accessories brochure.

Maybe you could attach it temporarily with big velcro? Then in two months or so when things seem clear you can remove it.

i have a front plate bracket i would let go really cheap if anyone wants it. it's 75 bucks from the dealer!! your car should have come with one tho and if not then your dealer should give you one. thank god i live in a state that dosen't need a front plate!

A friend (non-Mini) got a fix-it ticket for this. When they went in to show that it was fixed the inspector apparently gave it a hard tug to check for velcro etc. Not sure if that's always the case or not, but it may happen. Good luck.

I was running a little "hot" into town this morning and a town cop followed me (pretty much nose-2-tail) all the way to the interstate (good 10 miles via back, less traveled roads).

I wished I would have had him pull around so I could ask him for directions... (muh hahaha)

Didn't get pulled over but we both knew he had me.

The front license plate carrier for the Aero Kit is part number: 51 11 0 141 384 and it comes primed (looks like it is flat black) - and I never painted mine as i liked the flat black in came in. Cost from dealers is $43.50 but Classic (sponsor on this board) typically can get the parts for about 15% less. So somewhere around $37.

Sorry it this sounds like a bust your chops post.....but if you live in a state (I do) that requires a front plate, then YOU are responsible to have it.

It doesn't really matter if you have an aero kit or a whatever for a bumper, if you drive it on the steet, then it MUST have a front lic mounted on the front.

If not, you can get a ticket.

It doesn't matter what the dealer or factory or your Mother says or thinks. Some Cops may be a little more understanding, but there are some who won't and it's you who will be contributing to some little town's municipal fund with your ticket payment.

I've even see tickets written for having the dealer's license bracket covering a part of the plate. And if you've got a plastic cover over your plate (to block the view of the numbers/letters) you had better not even drive thru my home town.

Sad by true.

Voo...

Thanks to you I've had to completely reschedule my parade due to rain-out. You sound like the cop from that movie with Chevy Chase where he gets a ticket in this strange little town and they lock him up...

Bad cop. No donut.

I'll check it before i leave the office and stop by their shop.

casey- thanks again, that's very helpful info. i might just get that instead and
put it on. flat back would be my choice in color too...no need to paint it.

Instead of putting on my front plate on my last two cars I hucked it down the street, smashed the bracket, and tossed all of it in the trunk. If I get pulled over "the plate fell off, and the bracket is backordered". I've been driving with no front plate for 10 years and have never been pulled over because of it. I'd say keep the plate in the trunk and forget about it.

casey- i ended up buying the 51 11 0 141 384. Found out it doesn't come
with screws... so I asked if they can give me a few for free and the parts
guy charged me $0.46 for 2 screws! waaaat?! I then swung over to the
sales dept. and they gave me more screws for free. ??! :???: seems like a dumb question, but come to think of it, ive never
mounted a front plate braket in my life.
